Los Angeles, California
LEED® Level: Gold EB O&M v3

5900 Wilshire, also known as the iconic “Variety Building” is a 31-story tower constructed in 1971 with 360 degree views of the city located in Los Angeles’ Miracle Mile district and directly across from the LA County Museum of Art (LACMA).  Designed in the late 1960s by the legendary William Pereira, 5900 Wilshire was acquired by The Ratkovich Company, in partnership with an institutional investor in December 2005, and underwent a successful renovation in 2008. The Ratkovich Company then engaged BuildingWise to take 5900 Wilshire through the LEED for Existing Buildings high-performance operations and maintenance certification program. Easily identified by the portions of the Berlin Wall on Wilshire Boulevard, the building has melded culture, energy efficiency and environmental stewardship to become Los Angeles’ latest LEED Gold certified building under the LEED-EB: O&M v2009 rating system.  The Ratkovich Company worked closely with BuildingWise and the USGBC, to establish the framework for this prestigious award.
